Send Me A Reply

Postcard is a form of communication, yes, but hasn't it also evolved into a nostalgia in the present age? With this work, I wish for the nostalgia to not stop once the postcard is sent & received to the significant one. What if the sender & the receiver keep reliving the nostalgia? Why don't they keep sending back & forth? My postcard can obviously serves the message of the sender, but it in itself has another layer of message. Here's the clue: destruction leads to creation (just like the Berlin Wall!). The title is also a clue... "Send Me Your Reply"

Exhibited at "The Ghost in Walls" Group Exhibition with Shared Campus. 2019. Italic, Berlin.

Gestation Gestalt

Gestation or birth is hailed as the genesis of human life. This idea confines birth as a part of a non-continuous structure, but who dictates birth as a single point of life, let alone the first and foremost? What about fertilisation, or menstruation, or even both altogether as a beginning of life? Gestation becomes part of gestalt - a structure that is constructed out of fragments that connect to each other as a holistic union. Birth can constantly be happening throughout one’s life, while the commencement of life is not restrictedly defined as birth since it can be shared with other parts of life. We see life as not a sum of parts, but as a whole.

SOEARA1945

SOEARA1945 is a triptych of audio-visual pieces, highlighting 2 Indonesian national songs ("Tanah Airku" by Ibu Soed & "Rayuan Pulau Kelapa" by Ismail Marzuki) and 3 Indonesian children tunes ("Balonku" by A.T. Mahmud, "Burung Kaka Tua", & "Nina Bobo"). The musical pieces are arranged and performed with the intention of exuding the artist's identity, also it acts as an expressive method to discover more about her own identity as an Indonesian. The pieces are supported by moving images, which symbolizes the life that the artist is living in the present; while the music represents the elements that have left a mark on the artist since her childhood, making up into a whole of her identity now. Both elements are united with the static noise inside the recording. Using the application Processing, the RGB value of each image is averaged and substituted to the pay rate value of the static noise. Hence, creating interaction between both elements, as if portraying how the past memories of the artist are affecting the identity that she is living now.

Exhibited at "Artweek: Sangka-Rekah". 2019. Jakarta.

EKKE Selfcare F/W 2022

This new collection centers itself around the ideas of human re-invention both physically and spiritually; circulating thoughts on surgery, body modifications, and robotics in healthcare influenced seam-lines and silhouette development focusing on protecting vulnerable areas of the body and choosing to reveal others. The collection’s title ‘self-care’ is centric to the way the collection is meant to be viewed as a stranger onlooking into intimate spaces.

Holometabolism

Tis inspired by the Hilbert's paradox of the grand hotel, in which there exists a fully occupied hotel with infinitely many rooms that can still accommodate additionally infinite guests. And the process may be repeated... infinitely. Here i'm trying to translate the concept into my personal space - a hotel room, considerably being a small number should it be quantified into objective area measurements. One hotel room is expanded into rooms (by each camera shots) and each of them grows on its own imaginary volume and space.

Kinderjoy

Kinderjoy – based on the joy of just being a kid at heart, inspired by the drawings that I used to draw (and maybe the other children around the world may do so too, although I’m not sure if everyone draws a rice paddy field) when I was little, and our naive love for stickmen. At the end, there is a little sarcastic note for those art teachers who demand students to copy their examples to achieve the ‘perfect’ score of a masterpiece.

Salarymodel

Here we present a documentary of a salarymodel, who is working hard to market himself as a model figurine. His day begins early when he takes the ferry to a distant island. He encounters his first problem with the bicycle tire, ending up going around the town by foot. He goes from door to door, but without much luck. The day ends as the wind blows, causing his suitcase to open and the products fly off to the ocean. He laments his loss, left with nothing but to sleep on the street. He hopes that tomorrow doesn't repeat.

CODING

A mock up dev mint site, using ERC721 with Solidity. You are invited to mint (at least) one part of the photograph. After minting, the part of photograph that you selected will appear on the 5x5 boxes, resembling a to-be-completed puzzle. You're also now the owner of that part of photograph. In doing so, you become a crucial agent to complete the materialization of the photograph. Tools used: Solidity, Remix, React JS.

The idea of MARKUQUEUE is rooted in my personal opinion that a photography story is made complete by the viewers' gaze and interpretation. While the photographer & team are the ones setting the materials and the story settings, the audience holds the final say on the story outcome. The story that we shared here is about 2 individuals that are constantly influencing themselves, the influence being symbolized by the piercings. They are seen to be queueing to put that 'influence' on themselves

Tools used: Javascript to assist story-making interaction with audience, p5js for home page animation, Photoshop for the photography post-production, Vercel.

KATALOK is an exploration of 9 ready-made materials (in chronological order): cotton, plastic, metal, denim, polyurethane, tulle, wood, gold, and fur. These materials are spun off into a collection of imaginary, campy furniture. The following website serves as a means to present, as it is the project fundamental to simulate/parodize the process of shopping.

Tools used: WebGL, THREE JS for the 3D web design, Blender for the 3D object renders, Photoshop for the photography post-production, Vercel.
